The goal was finally decoded as a content consumption platform for android and web to compete with established players such as Netflix, Hotstar and Youtube.

Understanding the user

Building the platform

Distillied the learnings from the interviews into product feature set.

Designed user flows focusing on solving problems in different areas. Said areas ranged from familial television habits to commute-time podcast surfing to written article personalization. Tested these user flows using simple paper prototypes.

Once the flow & navigation was finalized, we created digital wireframes for the web and mobile interfaces to compare feature placement.

A prototype was built with these wireframes on invision which allowed a more complete picture of how the product was being shaped for the stakeholders and to gather detailed feedback. Also allowed us to run casual usability sessions to tweak the flow & navigation.

Designing the Interface

The chief strategy was to divide content according to time duration, and further classify use cases for these content groups. Content was also grouped as per stereotypical/persona-based watching habits that went on to provide a smoother flow through the UX.

A secondary navigation revolved around an endless scroll of content options that eased user decision making process with the help of a single swipe. Algorithms would then be written to curate more specific and personalized content based on data about the user’s app activity, such as watching durations, likes, dismissals etc.

Finalizing the wireframes locked the feature set which allowed us to work on component selection for the respective mobile and web interface. Over time with multiple iterations, this interface was polished to give the final UI in line with the brand guidelines.
